Performance Artists Amy Khoshbin, Ithai Benjamin, and Michael Clemow use cross-platform media to create performances best described as hybrids, ranging from robotic puppets to interactive video to experimental hand-made instruments. The …three performance program – Practice by Khoshbin, The Princes of Persuasion by Benjamin, and These Shackles Will Set You Free by Clemow – is presented for one night only, Saturday, May 7, 2011, from 9-11pm at the recording studio and all-ages showspace, Shea Stadium Brooklyn, in Williamsburg.

A DJ/VJ dance party will immediately follow with amazing DJ’s cassettenova, Don Miller & Winslow Porter and rad VJ’s Aux Armes & splaf7.

Tickets to OVERNOTOVER are $7 and available at the door. Details about the performances are below. Invite all of your friends, it will be an amazing time!

Practice is a multimedia, one-woman performance exploring family, memory and how we see ourselves through the eyes of our parents, even through adulthood. Amy Khoshbin unfolds her family’s story within an interactive video set where she plays the role of herself, as her father – a Baha’i Iranian immigrant, and as her mother – an Italian-American Baha’i convert. Practice was performed in 2011 at Zora Art Space and also The Stone as part of series curated by Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson.

The Princes Of Persuasion Are Planet Africa – Linda the Ballerina returns to New York after running away to Africa, where she befriended a Cameroon Zebra named Odhiambo, after beating him in a camouflage tournament. They became best friends and together developed what would later be known in African dance circles as the “Ballet Club” movement. Tonight she shares her story. Joined by Ithai Benjamin and special guest.

Michael Clemow continues his work with custom electronic instruments and digital synthesis software by further developing compositional methodologies and “performance situations” based on restraints. In These Shackles Will Set You Free, the score is written into the instrument as well as the performance situation and playing the piece is less about reading a score on paper than it is about exploring a possibility space. His experimental compositions have been performed at The Stone, Diapason, Issue Project Room, and other New York venues.
